Environmental Practice

If you practice environmental law, you may work for the government or represent private clients.  If you are in private practice, you will counsel clients about compliance with environmental regulations, represent them in matters before state and federal agencies, and, if you also engage in environmental litigation, represent your clients in adversarial court proceedings.  In addition to understanding environmental law, you must be familiar with all aspects of the administrative process. In addition, you must have a solid grounding in other areas of law that impact environmental issues as well as those aspects of state corporation law that establish authority and responsibility within the corporate structure. As an environmental lawyer, you must also be skilled in interviewing, counseling, negotiating and drafting.
