January 2013 Class Notes

Denis F. McLaughlin ’73 recently spoke at the 2012 Annual Review of New Jersey Civil Case Law. McLaughlin is a professor at Seton Hall Law School. This was the seventh year McLaughlin presented a compilation of the year’s decisions feared towards civil litigators.

Francis P. Devine III ’73 and Nina M. Gussack ’79 have been named “local litigation stars” in the sixth edition (2013) of Benchmark Litigation. Devine and Gussack are partners at Pepper Hamilton LLP in Philadelphia, PA. Devine focuses his practice on complex business and commercial disputes, products liability, insurance coverage, professional liability and malpractice, directors and officers liability, and intellectual property disputes. Gussack concentrates her practice in civil litigation, with a primary emphasis in the defense of pharmaceutical and medical device companies.
John Marc Goodman ’74 has been re-elected to his fourth term as District Attorney in Lyon County, Kansas, county seat Emporia.

Vasilios J. Kalogredis ’74 co-wrote an article in the January 10th issue of Legal Intelligencer titled “OIG Approves Arrangements for Electronic Interface”. Kalogredis is founder and shareholder of Kalogredis, Sansweet, Dearden & Burke, a health care law firm in Wayne, PA.

Michael G. Trachtman ’74 was a guest speaker on the January 14, 2013 episode of the Philadelphia CNN-News affiliate WFMZ-TV, The American Law Journal presents, "Facebook, Blogs and the Boss: The Intersection of Social Media and the Workplace," with host Christopher Naughton. Trachtman serves as general counsel to the Mid-Atlantic Employers' Association.

Marc P. Weingarten ’76, a partner at Locks Law Firm in Philadelphia, PA,  recently chaired the International Asbestos Forum in London, where he gave a presentation entitled "Developments in U.S. Asbestos Litigation,"  The event was attended by plaintiff and defense counsel and international insurance executives. Weingarten focuses his practice on complex personal injury litigation.

Samuel J. Arena Jr. ’83, a partner at Stradley Ronon, moderated a panel discussion at the ABA’s Tort Trial & Insurance Practice Section, Fidelity & Surety Law Committee Fall Fidelity Program in Hartford, CT on November 8, 2012.  Arena chairs Stradley Ronon’s Fidelity & Surety Practice Group and concentrates his practice on insurance law and fidelity and surety law.

Mary Ann Mullaney ’90, a partner with Blank Rome, LLP in Philadelphia, PA, was a presenter at Blank Rome LLP’s program entitled “Issues Affecting Development in the Marcellus and Utica Plays” on December 11, 2012, in Harrisburg, PA. Mullaney focuses her practice on commercial litigation.

Edmund J. Campbell ‘91 and Peter S. Friedman ’76 presented at the National Business Institute’s seminar entitled “Land Use and Zoning Law Litigation” on December 10, 2012, in Philadelphia, PA.  Campbell is an attorney with the firm Silverang & Donohoe, LLC, where he focuses on real estate land development, municipal law, zoning, subdivision, environment and other government entitlements, and a founding shareholder of the law firm Friedman, Schuman, Applebaum, Nemeroff & McCaffery, P.C., where he focuses on real estate law and zoning, as well as corporate and business law.

Carolyn R. Mirabile ’91, a partner at Weber Gallagher Simpson Stapleton Fires & Newby LLP, authored a case note entitled, “Father’s Polyamorous Relationship Alone Is Not Sufficient Evidence To Overcome The Presumption In Favor Of Granting Primary Physical Custody To Parents Over Third Parties,” published in the December 2012 issue of the Pennsylvania Family Lawyer. Mirabile concentrates her practice on family law.

John J. O’Malley ’92, of Volpe and Koenig, P.C., has been appointed co-chair of the Philadelphia Bar Association's Intellectual Property Committee.  O'Malley will serve for a one-year term as co-vice president, commencing January 2013. O’Malley concentrates his practice on advising clients on strategies for building brands and developing and protecting U.S. and international trademark portfolios.
Nicholas R. Reynolds ’93 has joined his wife, Karen P. Reynolds ’92, at Reynolds Family Law, LLC in Malvern, PA where their focus is on family law, representing an array of clients in Chester, Delaware and Montgomery Counties.
Valentino DiGiorgio ’94, a partner at Stradley Ronon Stevens & Young, LLP, discussed the state and national political climate at “5 Days to Inauguration: The Future of Pennsylvania and National Policies & Politics” on January 16, 2013 at The Hub Cira Centre. This presentation was moderated by Philadelphia journalist Larry Kane, and featured analysis of the 2012 election and how Pennsylvania businesses will be impacted by the new political landscape.

Christina M. DeMatteo ’98 authored a case note entitled, "Superior Court of Pennsylvania Determines That In Loco Parentis Standings Is Severed By Adoption If In Loco Parentis Ends Prior to Adoption," published in the December 2012  issue of the Pennsylvania Family Lawyer. DeMatteo recently joined Shemtob Law in Blue Bell, PA as partner, focusing on all aspects of family law litigation.

Lawrence J. Weinstein ’99 and Terence S. McGraw ’86 are scheduled to present at the National Business Institute’s two day course entitled “Social Security Disability: From State to Finish” on February 13-14, 2013, in Philadelphia PA. Weinstein is a partner at the law firm of Silver & Silver and focuses on Social Security disability. McGraw is an attorney with Warren & McGraw, LLC and specializes in workers’ compensation, social security and employee disability benefits.

Claudine Homolash ’99 recently appeared on the CNN-News affiliate WFMZ-TV’s program, “Physician Payment Sunshine Act: Ethical Necessity or Excessive Burden?” presented by The American Law Journal on January 14, 2013. Homolash is a plaintiffs’ attorney at Sheller P.C. in Philadelphia, PA.

Jay Graham ’01 joined the New York office of CBIZ MHM, LLC as managing director. As a member of the tax services practice group, Graham focuses on federal taxation with respect to consulting, compliance and ASC 740 services for companies in various industries.

Nikitas Moustakas ’02 recently joined the Mount Laurel, N.J. law office of Capehart & Scatchard as a shareholder. Moustakas counsels corporate and individual clients on real estate/business sales & acquisitions, estate planning & administration, business transactional law and community & homeowners associations.

Daniel J. Boland ’03, John W. Devine ’03, Yvonne M. McKenzie ’02, and Hyung P. Steele ’03, were recently named partners at the Philadelphia, PA, law office of Pepper Hamilton LLP. Boland is a member of the Commercial Litigation Practice Group focusing on complex commercial litigation. Devine is a member of the firm’s Corporate and Securities Practice Group.  McKenzie and Steele are members of the Health Effects Litigation Practice Group.

Matthew Mousley ’04 was recently named partner at Duane Morris law firm in Philadelphia, PA. Mousley is a member of the firm’s Intellectual Property Practice Group, and concentrates on both intellectual property and information technology.

Rachel E. Branson ’06 co-wrote an article in the January 10th issue of the Legal Intelligencer entitled “Affinity Bar Associations: Why Should Young Lawyers Join?”  Branson is an associate in the corporate and finance and intellectual property groups at Schnader Harrison Segal & Lewis, and president of the Barristers’ Association of Philadelphia.

James M. Gonzalez ’07 married Kristin Lee Holley on November 3, 2012 in St. Simon’s Island, Georgia. Gonzalez is an associate at Marshall Dennehey Warner Coleman & Goggin in Jacksonville, FL.

Elizabeth M. Sartori ’08 married Craig Joseph Arthur on Friday, Sept. 21, 2012 at Holy Redeemer Church in Chatham, MA. Sartori is an associate attorney in the litigation practice at Bingham McCutchen LLP in Boston.

Scott J. Endlein ’11 recently joined the Mount Laurel, NJ office of Capehart & Scatchard, as an associate in the Workers' Compensation Department. 

William J. Gallagher ’12 recently joined the Savannah, GA law office of HunterMaclean, as an associate in the estates and trusts practice group.

Jonathan G. Lombardo’12 is an associate in the Electrical Group at Volpe and Koenig, P.C., an intellectual property law firm with offices in Philadelphia and Princeton, NJ.
