Building Hours

Following are the hours for the Law School building for Thursday, March 28 through Monday, April 1, 2013. Swipe access will be available 24/7 during the break for those with faculty and executive status.
 
On Thursday, March 28th, the Law School building will lock at 7:00 p.m.  From 7:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m., wildcard swipe access will be available via the main door for the Law School community. Everyone must exit at 10:00 p.m.
 
On Friday, March 29th, the Law School building is CLOSED.
 
On Saturday, March 30th, wildcard swipe access will be available via the main door for the Law School community. Everyone must exit at 10:00 p.m.
 
On Sunday, March 31st, the Law School building is CLOSED.
 
On Monday, April 1st, normal hours resume.

Holy Thursday begins the Sacred Tridium (Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday). This should be celebrated with full dignity and reverence in the local parishes. Please join us.

WLC Film Screening and Human Trafficking Discussion

Monday, March 25, 4-6pm, in Room 203

The 2011 documentary, "Whore's Glory," depicts the life of prostituted people in three different cities: Bangkok, Thailand; Faridpur, Bangladesh; and Reynosa, Mexico. Clips of the film, which document the workers' daily lives, will be shown with student discussion to follow.  All are welcome.  Come learn more about how the sex industry affects women on an international scale and share your thoughts with other students in a respectful and engaging conversation. Food will be served.


NLG Post-Graduate Fellowship Panel

Tuesday, March 26, 4:45pm in Room 203

You can learn firsthand from Equal Justice, Independent, and Berkeley fellows!  Sara Korol, an Equal Justice Fellow at the ACLU, Hallam Roth, an Independence Fellow at the Education Law Center, and Caitlin Barry, a previous Berkeley Fellow will give tips on creating a project, finding a partner organization, the application process, and more!  Each panelist will talk for 10-12 minutes about their experience and tips and then we will have time for Q/A. Food will be served!


Mental Health Day 
 
Wednesday, March 27, in the Blank Rome Dining Room

Did you know Lawyers are 3.6 times more likely to suffer from depression than other occupations? Come learn more about Mental Health and the Legal Profession as VLS participates in the ABA Law Student Division’s National Mental Health Day. Law schools across the country will help spread awareness and promote discussion about mental health in the legal community.  All are encouraged to stop by the table for an on-line mental health check-up and to speak with Kate Bender, programming consultant for the DavidNee Foundation http://www.daveneefoundation.com/, to discuss signs, symptoms and resources to help law students struggling with stress, anxiety and depression.


Cesar Chavez Documentary Screening

Monday, April 1, 3-5pm in Room 203

The Farmworker Legal Aid Clinic, in conjunction with NLG and the Coalition Advocating for Rights and Dignity (CARD), will be screening a documentary on the life of Cesar Chavez, a labor organizer and civil rights leader who was instrumental in the movement to improve the working conditions of farm workers. The documentary will be followed by a panel of practitioners and current clinic students who will discuss their experience working in this area of the law.  Refreshments will be provided.

Faculty & Staff Lenten Retreat: "Mindfulness: Awakening to the Presence of God"

Thursday, March 28, 10am- Noon at the Corr Chapel

Led by Fr. David Cregan, O.S.A. Our Overly-stressed minds can oftentimes be an obstacle to concentration, prayer and peaceful living. Prayer is the most important tool we can use to understand our lives and interpret our experience. Join us for a retreat focusing on the practices of meditation and mindfulness, aimed at increasing our awareness of the reality that we are always in the presence of God. Mindfulness values the experience of ordinary life as an opportunity to encounter God. During this retreat, we will explore how extraordinary ordinary experience can be when we are present to ourselves and to the world!

Wine & Cheese Networking Event

Wednesday, April 10, 5:30-7:30pm at Eckert Seamans, Two Liberty Place, 50 South 16th Street, 22nd Floor, Philadelphia, PA 19102

The Philadelphia Bar Association Intellectual Property Committee is hosting a Wine & Cheese Networking Event for law students. The program will be attended by law students and attorneys practicing in the field of intellectual property law. The program will also include brief presentations from attorneys in various work settings who will share some of their experiences in the practice of intellectual property law. This event will provide a unique opportunity for students to speak directly with attorneys practicing in their field of interest. There is no cost to attend.
