Philadelphia’s Future Mayor
Sabryna Beckles’ decision to come all the way to Villanova Law School from her hometown of Los Angeles hinged on one key element—location, location, location. “I was really inspired by Philadelphia,” she said. “There is something magical about studying law in area so steeped in legal history.”
While walking around the city, Sabryna says it is exciting to feel that she is literally following in the footsteps of Ben Franklin, Thomas Jefferson and other founding fathers. “This is where the Constitution was written,” she said. “The opportunity to study the law in its birthplace is unbelievable.”
Now settling into her second year at VLS, Sabryna had the opportunity to explore Philadelphia’s legal legacy this summer while working downtown with a private family law attorney. Enthralled by Philadelphia’s history, she also sees the city as perfectly geographically positioned to advance her career. “Philadelphia allows me to interact with so many employers in different fields and different cities,” she said. But that doesn’t mean she plans to leave Philadelphia anytime soon. “I want to be Mayor Nutter,” she said. “I just love this city and totally see myself taking over.”
