Biography
Judge Lewis was appointed by the Governor of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to serve as a judge of the Court of Common Pleas, First Judicial District in 1988, elected to a full term in 1989 and retained in 1999. She served in the Family, Orphans and Trial Divisions in Philadelphia PA. Judge Lewis has presided over trials, jury and non-jury, in the following areas: juvenile delinquency, dependency, major crimes, wills, trusts, guardianships, estates, homicides including capital and non-capital and post conviction appeals. She also served as the supervising judge of the County Investigating Grand Jury. Judge Lewis was appointed by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court as the Administrative Judge of the Orphans Court Division and as member of the Pennsylvania Domestic Relations and Orphans Court Rules Committees.
Judge Lewis was an instructor at the National Judicial College and has lectured on topics including rights of the elderly, ethical issues in probate, PA Guardianship Act, sentencing and corrections of female offenders and juveniles in the justice system. Judge Lewis served as the co-chair of the Juvenile Justice Alliance of Philadelphia for many years.
After retiring from the bench, Judge Lewis served as the Executive Director of a non-profit corporation which provides home based health care services to disabled and elderly persons.
Judge Lewis is an active member of many judicial and legal organizations.
