Biography

Dr. James C. Garvey joined University of Villanova Law School in October 2011 as the Associate Dean for Development and Alumni Relations.  He brings to the Law School nearly 20 years of advancement experience in education, on both the undergraduate and graduate levels.  He has special expertise in strategic planning and implementation, with a goal to ensure future viability and growth of Villanova Law School.  His extensive experience includes working with Boards of Trustees, alumni and volunteer boards, and managing government relations and communications. Over his 20 years in fundraising, Dean Garvey has successfully directed a number of comprehensive capital campaigns exceeding $100 million.

Dean Garvey received his Bachelor of Arts from Connecticut College, New London, Connecticut, and a Master of Business Administration from Temple University.  He was conferred a Doctorate of Education from University of Pennsylvania in 2007.

Prior to joining the Law School, Dean Garvey was the Vice President for Strategic Priorities and Advancement for New England College in Henniker, New Hampshire, where he led the college’s strategic planning process.  Dean Garvey was the Vice President for Development and Alumni Relations at Philadelphia University from 2008 through 2010, where he managed the advancement efforts for the University’s six schools as well as the athletics department and library.   He also has served as Associate Dean for Development and Alumni Relations for the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Dental Medicine, and as Director of Development for the William Penn Charter School, a Quaker day school for grades K through 12 located in Philadelphia.
