Villanova Law Dedicates Kenwyn M. Dougherty Reading Room

Family, friends, classmates and colleagues of the late Kenwyn “Kenny” M. Dougherty ’80 gathered in the Law Library to dedicate the Reading Room named in her honor. Made possible through a generous gift from Dougherty’s husband Richard L. McMonigle ’80 and family, the “Kenwyn M. Dougherty Reading Room” is on the Library’s second floor and features floor to ceiling windows overlooking Villanova’s campus and expansive reading and studying space for 60 students.

Speaking at the Dedication, Acting Dean Doris DelTosto Brogan ’81 and McMonigle reminisced about their law school experiences and toasted Dougherty’s achievements, including her becoming one of the first female managing partners in a major Philadelphia law firm, Post & Schell PC. “Kenny loved her experience at Villanova Law, and loved being a lawyer,” McMonigle said. “I can think of no greater tribute to her experience here and her legal accomplishments.”

McMonigle also launched the Kenwyn M. Dougherty Scholarship Campaign. Beginning with a generous contribution from McMonigle and his family, the goal of the Campaign is to raise an additional $150,000 to permit the awarding of a three-year partial tuition scholarship in Dougherty’s name every three years, in perpetuity, to an incoming law student with strong academic achievement and financial need.

McMonigle, his wife Kathleen Chancler ’84, and McMonigle and Dougherty's three children, including Leigh ’10, were present at the Dedication.
