VLS Brings Home Deans’ Cup

The first annual Deans’ Cup basketball game featured law students and faculty from Villanova and Temple competing for the coveted Deans' Cup, as well as entertainment by Villanova’s Wildcat and Temple’s Owl mascots and a three-point shooting contest at half-time.  This year, Temple hosted the game at McGonigle Hall.  After Temple jumped out to an early 8-point lead, Villanova stormed back to tie the game 28-28 at halftime.  The game was a nail-biter, with several lead changes throughout the second half.  In the end, Villanova outscored Temple by 14 points in the final 10 minutes of play, edging Temple 57-48 for the final score.

The event raised nearly $1300 for Villanova's Public Interest Fellowship Program (PIFP) and Temple's Student Public Interest Network (SPIN).  In addition, it provided a great opportunity for Temple and Villanova to build community and connections between the two law schools while creating a classic rivalry that mirrors that of the Philly Big 5 basketball programs. It also promoted both schools' renowned commitment to public interest, supporting student legal work in the public interest sector that is critically important to the lives of low-income people, the elderly, abused and neglected children, victims of discrimination, people with disabilities, and other members of our society who lack advocates.
