VLS Team Reaches Quarter-Finals at LawMeet
After facing off against teams from George Washington, Columbia and Cornell, and winning first place in the Regional Competition held in February, the Corporate Law Society team of Valerie Calderon, Ashley Hugo and Travis Nembhard became quarter-finalists at the National Transactional Lawyering Meet (LawMeet).
LawMeet is a “moot court” experience providing students with the opportunity to participate in a simulation of transactional practice. During the meet, students work in teams to draft a transactional agreement and to negotiate its provisions with opposing student teams. Teams are judged by a panel of experts from practice who will evaluate the teams’ success in achieving the goals of the parties to the transaction.
This year’s challenge involved the negotiation of an executive employment agreement for a new chief executive officer. Participating teams combined lawyering skills, drafting, a knowledge of contract, corporate and other facets of business law and business sense to develop innovative solutions for structuring the transaction.
