VLS Mourns Daniel L. Thistle '70

It is with great sadness that we share the loss of a classmate, Daniel L. Thistle '70. Thistle passed away on Friday, July 13, 2012, of bladder cancer at Penn Hospice at Rittenhouse.

Prior to earning his law degree from Villanova University School of Law, Thistle attended St. Joseph's Preparatory School in Philadelphia, PA, where he was a member of the crew team. He then went on to earn a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Kansas in 1967.

Thistle was a longtime supporter of Villanova University School of Law.  He served as a class representative for the Class of 1970 to encourage his classmates to join him in supporting the Law School.  Most recently, Villanova recognized Thistle for his generosity by naming a  55-seat classroom in the new Law School building, the Daniel T. Thistle Classroom.

After graduating from law school in 1970, Thistle joined The Beasley Firm. He was a partner at the firm when he left in 1995 to establish the Thistle Law Firm, in which he served as President until his death.

Despite his illness, Thistle served on the boards of the Philadelphia Trial Lawyers Association and Mount St. Joseph Academy in Philadelphia. Beloved husband of Christina (nee Koziel) Thistle and devoted father of Daniel T., Esqire '06, Stephanie M. and Laura C. Thistle. Brother of Sally Willis, Sissy McGrann, Michael Thistle, Esq., Frankie Lawson. Predeceased by his brother, Thomas Thistle, Esq.

The family requests that donations made in Daniel's name be sent to Norwood Fontbonne Academy, Mt. St. Joseph Academy or St. Joseph's Preparatory School.
