Whose Rights Are They, Anyway?

On May 16, 2012, Bernard M. Resnick '86, presented a lecture entitled Whose Rights Are They, Anyway to the Philadelphia Chapter of the Recording Academy (which presents the annual “Grammy” awards), at the offices of the Philadelphia Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts.  The discussion detailed one of the current hot topics in copyright law, the potential termination and reversion of copyright grants for sound recordings and musical compositions, which becomes effective on January 1, 2013. 

Resnick is an entertainment attorney with 25 years of experience in the entertainment industry.  He has earned over 85 gold, platinum, multi-platinum, Billboard #1, Eurovision and/or BDS Certified Spin awards for deals the firm has negotiated and drafted on behalf of the firm’s clients, representing sales of over 100,000,000 records.  He serves on several Boards of Directors including the Board of Governors of the Philadelphia Chapter of The Recording Academy, Villanova Law School’s Sports & Entertainment Law Journal Advisory Board and Saturnalia Books.   Resnick’s most recent publication, titled “The Artist’s Team in the U.S.,” co-authored with Priscilla J. Mattison, Esq., was included in the International Association of Entertainment Lawyers’ annual journal for 2012, Building Your Artist’s Brand as a Business.
