Law School Celebrates Commencement

The Law School celebrated its 56th Commencement on May 20, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Villanova Pavilion. The Honorable Kelly A. Ayotte ’93, U.S. Senator from New Hampshire, delivered the Commencement address and received the University’s Medallion Award. Senator Ayotte urged the graduates to take risks.  “By pushing the boundaries of your comfort zone, you can find potential within yourself that you didn’t know existed – and that’s what ultimately leads to excellence,” she said. “Finding the right opportunities and working hard at them are only part of the puzzle. To truly distinguish yourself, you have to be passionate about what you’re doing. Here at Villanova, which provides an education in the Augustinian tradition, you all have had an opportunity to live and learn in a community that aims to be united in ‘heart and mind.’ That’s what passion is all about – finding that harmony between following the natural direction of your abilities and listening carefully to what your intuition is telling you.”

Guy Vincent Blanchard ’11 was the student speaker. Two hundred fifty-two students were awarded J.D. degrees, and thirty-five students were awarded LL.M. degrees. A reception was held at the Law School following the ceremony.
