Professor Samahon Testifies Before Senate
Associate Professor Tuan Samahon testified before the Senate Committee on the Judiciary, Subcommittee of the Constitution on Tuesday, October 6 at the hearing on "Examining the History and Legality of Executive Branch Czars." The hearing was called by Sen. Russell D. Feingold (D. Wis.) to examine the issue of high level officials whose appointments are not confirmed by the Senate. Professor Samahon was one of five witnesses to testify. The panel concluded that President Obama's extensive use of "czars" is legal as long as the officials do not overstep their authority by exercising the delegated sovereign authority of the United States. As Professor Samahon said, the goal is to avoid "the problem that the sorcerer’s apprentice becomes a sorcerer."
