VLS Welcomes Class of 2013
Villanova Law School welcomed 251 first-year students with a two-day orientation program that provided an intense introduction to legal analysis, reasoning, the case method and the pedagogy of law school, along with a financial aid overview, an introduction to student services and the chance to engage with faculty, students and staff at a gala reception . A welcome ceremony was highlighted by remarks from The Reverend Peter M. Donohue, O.S.A., University President and Doris DelTosto Brogan ’81, Acting Dean and Professor of Law. The Honorable Abraham Gafni, Professor of Law, administered the oath of professional and academic conduct.
Dean Brogan told the class “you are a cellist, a clarinet player, a police officer, fluent in Spanish, Japanese, Hebrew, Italian, Hindi, Vietnamese, French, Korean and American Sign Language. You are a marathoner, a disc jockey, and a minor league baseball player. Most important, you are human beings….So hold onto your humanity, pay close attention to your personal and professional identity, nurture your value system with care, illuminate its development with what you learn about the law, and illuminate what you learn about the law with your value system.”
