A Day in the Law
Your Alumni Association and the Office of Career Strategy and Advancement invite you to participate in our Seventh Annual “A Day in the Law” program. This popular program is designed to expose first year students to the practice of law by matching them with a graduate for a day over winter break.
“A Day in the Law” is an educational program, not a job interview or recruiting tool. Many first year students have never visited a law office or do not know any attorneys. This program helps students to connect with alumni attorneys, and helps you to stay connected with Villanova.
How does the program work?
Alumni willing to host one or two students will complete the online registration form by November 2, 2007.
Participating students and alumni will be matched primarily according to geographic location and, if feasible, by other interests. The alumni office will provide you with information about your assigned student, and the student will contact you to arrange a mutually convenience day to visit over winter break (December 21 through January 4).
Students are responsible for their own travel or other logistics (and associated expenses, if any).
What should you do that day?
How you organize your day is up to you. Even a half day can be informative for a student. Nothing fancy is required, for many students crave the opportunity to see the “real world” inside a law office. Further, students will understand that during their visit they are considered part of your office and should keep in confidence what they see or hear while visiting. Here are a few activities that students enjoyed last year: discussing the daily routine of attorneys in your office; meeting your colleagues and learning about their practice niches; observing meetings, conference calls, depositions, or other events; meeting clients; visiting the local courthouse. We hope you will participate. While we cannot predict student participation with certainty, we expect interest to be as strong as in previous years, involving approximately one hundred students. Thus, your participation would be greatly appreciated. (Of course, because there are more alumni than first year students, we may not be able to match every interested graduate.)
Thank you for your support of Villanova Law and your future colleagues. We look forward to hearing from you!
