Thomas J. Koffer ’02 entered law school to pursue a career that would appeal to both the practical and intellectual aspects of his life. Before entering Villanova he had experience working as an investigative analyst in the New York County District Attorney’s Office and as an intern at the White House for Vice President Al Gore’s Domestic Policy Office. “As an attorney you’re uniquely positioned to have an impact on the lives and liberty of others. Law school is an educational endeavor that you’re agreeing to undertake not just for yourself, but also for the clients you don’t yet know. Villanova instilled in me the concept that law school is not just a means to do well in life, but also a way to do good.” Koffer has had no trouble doing well and doing good. His success at Villanova and beyond has led to exciting and rewarding opportunities.

While in law school, Koffer interned for the Chief Mediator of the Appellate Mediation Program in the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, served as Editor in Chief of the Villanova Law Review and graduated Order of the Coif. Koffer was able to use his Villanova Law education to pursue career options both with the government and a large New York City firm. He clerked for two judges, one at the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York and one at the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. After his two clerkships, Koffer joined Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr, LLP as an associate. Today, he works on a variety of litigation and real estate-related matters and is currently investigating alleged violations of the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. “Every day I rely on the skills I learned at Villanova. My professors taught me how to think through complex legal issues, explore the ramifications of a position and write a clear and concise conclusion.”

Koffer remains actively involved with his alma mater serving on the Board of the New York City Villanova Law Alumni Chapter.
