J.D./M.B.A.

Today, lawyers are increasingly choosing careers in corporations and businesses. In addition, government regulation and ever growing international trade have generated a demand for individuals who possess both legal and business skills. Thus, it is not surprising that many law firms and businesses have become very interested in hiring students with both a J.D. and an M.B.A. degree. Since 1989, Villanova students have recognized this trend and have enrolled in our joint J.D./M.B.A. program.

Why Dual Degrees?

Pursuing both a law degree and an M.B.A. makes sense. In an increasingly interconnected and interdependent world, expertise in both arenas provides the knowledge and skills you need to unravel the complexities and tap the opportunities of the new world order. The integration of business and law in your education parallels the real world. An M.B.A. helps you to understand the intricacies of business and enhances the practice of law; a J.D. helps you to understand the laws governing business, putting intellectual clout behind decisions and ventures.

The Competitive Advantage

Having both degrees sets you apart. You automatically become more marketable because the broad knowledge base gives you the option of pursuing a career in law, in business, or in both. And you'll have added flexibility for future career or job changes. Some of the many career options for which dual degrees are beneficial include: mergers and acquisitions attorney; in-house corporate counsel; entertainment and sports agent; insurance and securities underwriting; securities regulation; investment banking; venture capital formation; and corporate litigation. (For further information, please see Student Profiles.)
