Judge Magnuson of the United States District Court for the District of Minnesota issued an order setting the schedule for preliminary approval of settlement and provisional class certification set for Friday, March 22. NFL.com reports that the settlement is reportedly worth $42 million dollars. Six former NFL players including Fred Dyer brought the suit back in 2009 charging the NFL with using their names and images without their consent. Of the $42 million figure, roughly $8 million will go towards covering legal costs including attorneys fees. The rest of the money will go towards establishing a “common good trust” and a licensing agency for retired players.
