Scholarships
Listed below are the scholarships, moral obligation funds, and special loans available at Villanova University School of Law along with the application instructions.

Application Instructions
All students will be considered for the various scholarships. However, if the scholarship is based on financial need, you need to complete the financial aid process in its entirety by the deadline listed above in order to be considered. Please go to the Application Instructions for information. If the scholarship is followed by an asterisk, you ALSO need to submit a personal statement describing in detail your eligibility under the stated criteria; this essay must also meet the deadline listed above.
Scholarships
Deirdre L. Bailey Leadership Scholarships
These scholarships named in memory of Deirdre L. Bailey, Esq., '00, who served as a member of the Villanova Law Minority Alumni Society Leadership Board, are available to students who come from economically, social or culturally disadvantaged backgrounds, and who share Deirdre's commitment to education.
Professor Robert A.J. Barry Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Harriet Barry in memory of her husband Professor Barry. Professor Barry taught at the Law School from 1973 until his death in 1986. It is a three-year partial tuition scholarship to be awarded each year to an entering student on the basis of academic merit and financial need.
Class of 1962 Scholarship in Memory of Thomas S. Forkin
The classmates, family and friends of Thomas S. Forkin have endowed a three-year partial tuition scholarship in his memory. This scholarship will be awarded on the basis of academic merit and financial need.
Class of 1966 Scholarship
This scholarship, endowed by the Class of 1966, provides a three-year partial tuition scholarship to a student who demonstrates both academic merit and financial need.
Class of 1967 Scholarship
This scholarship, generously endowed by the Class of 1967, provides a three-year partial tuition scholarship. This scholarship will be awarded to a student who demonstrates both academic merit and financial need.
Class of 1968 Scholarship
The Class of 1968 has generously endowed a three-year partial tuition scholarship to be awarded to a student who demonstrates both academic merit and financial need.
Class of 1969 Scholarship
The Class of 1969 has generously endowed a three-year partial tuition scholarship to be awarded to a student who demonstrates both academic merit and financial need.
Class of 1971 Scholarship
This scholarship, endowed by the Class of 1971, provides a three-year partial tuition scholarship to a student who demonstrates both academic merit and financial need.
Class of 1973 Scholarship
This three-year partial tuition scholarship has been endowed by the Class of 1973. It will be awarded to a student who demonstrates both academic merit and financial need.
Class of 1975 Scholarship in Memory of Randy L. Sebastian
This three-year partial tuition scholarship has been endowed in memory of Randy L. Sebastian by his classmates, his friends and his law firm, MacElree Harvey Gallagher Featherman & Sebastian. This scholarship will be awarded on the basis of academic merit and financial need.
Class of 1984 Scholarship in Memory of John J. Morrissey, ‘84
This three-year partial tuition scholarship was established through the contributions of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Morrissey, John’s classmates from the Class of 1984, and other Villanova University School of Law alumni and friends. This scholarship will be awarded to a student who demonstrates both academic merit and financial need.
Dean's Merit Scholarship
This partial tuition scholarship is available to both incoming students and second or third-year students in order to attract and retain highly qualified students. This scholarship is awarded on the basis of academic merit and financial need.
E. Wallace Chadwick Memorial Scholarship*
The fund provides a three-year partial tuition scholarship for a resident of Delaware County, Pennsylvania who has expressed an interest in community service.
David F. Girard-diCarlo Scholarship
This scholarship was established by David ‘s partners at Blank Rome Comisky & McCauley, LLP in honor of his many excellent years of service to his law firm. It is a three-year partial tuition scholarship awarded on the basis of academic merit and financial need.
Arthur J. Kania Scholarship
This three-year partial tuition scholarship was established in honor of Arthur J. Kania, '56, by Constance B. Girard-diCarlo '74 and David F. Girard-diCarlo '73. This scholarship will be awarded to a student who demonstrates both academic merit and financial need.
John J. LaFalce Scholarship*
This three-year partial tuition scholarship was established by Congressman John J. LaFalce, '64, and is awarded annually to a first-year student who is a resident of Erie, Niagara, Orleans or Monroe County in New York or a graduate of a college or university headquartered in one of these counties. This scholarship will be awarded on the basis of academic qualifications, moral character, and financial need.
The Honorable Charles A. Lord Scholarship
This one-year scholarship in the amount of $3000 is awarded to an incoming student on the basis of merit and need. The scholarship was established by the Mutual Fire, Marine and Inland Insurance Company in memory of the Honorable Charles A. Lord of the Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania.
Law School Memorial Scholarship
This three-year partial tuition scholarship has been endowed in memory of members of the law school community by their relatives, friends, and colleagues. This scholarship will be awarded on the basis of academic merit and financial need.
Francis E. McGill Scholarship*
This scholarship was established by Arthur J. Kania, '56 in honor of his classmate, Francis E. McGIll, '56. A three-year partial tuition scholarship will be made to an incoming student on the basis of academic merit and financial need with preference based on one of more of the following criteria: graduation from the University of Scranton; graduation from St. Joseph's Preparatory School; an intent to return home as a general practitioner; a strong leaning toward concentration in an estates or real estate practice.
Minority Alumni Society Book Scholarship Fund
The Minority Alumni Society Book Scholarship Fund , created by the Villanova Law Minority Alumni Society Leadership Board, provides up to three $1,000 scholarships to help defray the cost of books and other educational expenses for incoming students. These scholarships are awarded on the basis of merit and financial need, and were established especially to assist students who have achieved academically in the face of significant cultural, social or economic obstacles.
Patrick J. O'Connor Scholarship*
This scholarship in honor of Patrick J. O'Connor, Esq., '67, who is a Philadelphia lawyer and President/CEO of the law firm of Cozen & O'Connor, was established by family and friends including Arthur Raynes, James Mundy, Merry T. O'Donnell, and The Maneely Fund. This three-year partial scholarship will be awarded to an incoming law student demonstrating outstanding scholastic achievement and financial need, with preference given to a student from a single parent home.
Pepper Hamilton LLP Scholarship
Pepper Hamilton LLP has generously funded these three year full-tuition scholarships in an effort to promote diversity in the legal profession. Candidates will be chosen based on merit, financial need and interesting life experiences. The experiences may include, but are not limited to, socioeconomic, religious, racial, ethnic and other cultural factors. Pepper Hamilton LLP is a diverse, multi-practice law firm with 500 lawyers in seven states and the District of Columbia.
Public Interest Scholars Program
A limited number of three-year 100% tuition-waiver scholarships are awarded to incoming students based on their academic achievement, leadership, public interest work and commitment to contribute to public interest endeavors as future public interest practitioners. Public Interest Scholars are required to make a number of commitments, including commitments to pro bono work while at the Law School and to be employed as public interest attorneys after graduation.
Harold Gill Reuschlein Scholarship
This partial tuition scholarship was established by Arthur J. Kania Esq., '56, in honor of Dean Emeritus Harold Gill Reuschlein. It is awarded annually for the third year of law studies to a student with outstanding achievement in the first two years of law study and a demonstrated financial need.
Marcella Reuschlein Scholarship*
This three-year partial tuition scholarship was established by Arthur J. Kania, '56, and Arthur Goldberg, '66, in honor of Mrs. Marcella Reuschlein, wife of Dean Emeritus Harold Gill Reuschlein. This scholarship will be awarded to a student who demonstrates both academic merit and financial need, and who is attempting to raise a family while in law school.
Brenda Joan Ruggiero Memorial Scholarship
This Fund was established by Dr. Robert and Mrs. Arlene Ruggiero in memory of their daughter Brenda Joan Ruggiero, a member of the class of '88. A partial-tuition scholarship will be awarded to an upcoming third-year law student who demonstrates both academic merit and financial need.
Minerva Schultz Scholarship
This scholarship fund was endowed in honor of Minerva Schultz by her daughter, the Honorable Sandra Schultz Newman, '72, and her family. This three-year partial tuition scholarship will be awarded to a student who demonstrates both academic merit and financial need.
Juan and Felipe Silva Memorial Scholarship*
This scholarship was established by Dr. Jose L. Silva, '43 Villanova University, in memory of his father Juan Silva and Uncle Felipe Silva. It is a three-year partial tuition scholarship to be awarded each year to an entering student. Priority for this scholarship will be given to a student of Cuban descent. In the alternative, if no such student is available, the scholarship will be awarded to a student of Latino descent on the basis of academic merit and financial need.
James W. Stoudt Memorial Scholarship Fund/Pennsylvania Bar Foundation*
This scholarship was established by the Pennsylvania Bar Foundation in honor of James W. Stoudt who was a devoted bar activist and Foundation Director Emeritus. Two scholarships will be awarded one which is specifically designated for a minority law student. Applicants must be second-year law students who are Pennsylvania residents and members of the Pennsylvania Bar Association. The awards are based on academic achievement, financial need and the potential for making a contribution to society and the legal profession.
David E. Worby Scholarship
Endowed by noted trial attorney David E. Worby, '76, this scholarship is awarded to a third-year student who has distinguished himself or herself in advocacy courses or moot court competition.
Moral Obligation Grants
Arronson Moral Obligation Grant Fund
Awards from this Fund are available to currently enrolled students in need of financial assistance. After graduation, recipients of grants from this Fund undertake a moral obligation not only to repay the actual money awarded, but also to provide further support for other needy students by making continuing contributions to the Arronson Fund or to similar funds at the Law School.
Law School Moral Obligation Grant Fund
This Fund was established to assist currently enrolled students in need of financial assistance. After graduation, recipients of grants from this Fund undertake a moral obligation not only to replenish the actual money awarded but also to further support other needy students through continuing contributions to this fund or similar funds at the Law School.
Special Loan
Joseph C. Kohn Loan Fund
This Fund was established by Harold E. Kohn, Esq. (deceased), former member of the School of Law Board of Consultors, in memory of his father, Joseph C. Kohn. Loans from this fund will be made on the basis of financial need and academic excellence. This low-interest loan goes into repayment and interest begins to accrue one year after the recipient graduates or ceases to be enrolled at the School of Law.
State Grants
Delaware Scholarship Incentive Program/Other State Grants
- For Delaware residents who are full-time students, have at least a 2.5 unweighted, cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale and who meet other eligibility criteria
- Awards are $1000 per year
- To apply, submit the FAFSA in time to have it received by the processor no later than April 15

Residents of all other states should contact their state agencies for information on eligibility requirements and deadlines. A list of state agencies is available in the Financial Aid Office.
