2008-2009 Financial Aid

Work-Study

Work-study is a form of financial aid available to students who demonstrate financial need and are considered to be making satisfactory academic progress at Villanova Law School.  In addition, federal regulations require that in order to be eligible for work-study, students must be considered as currently enrolled at Villanova Law School or must be considered as “intending to return to study” at the law school.  Thus, if a student makes a decision to transfer or withdraw, that student’s work-study will be terminated immediately.   In order to determine if you are eligible for work-study, you must complete all the necessary financial aid forms, including the filing of the FAFSA, for the appropriate year. For work-study for the summer of 2008 or the 2008-09 academic year, you must complete the 2008-09 financial aid process. Once you have been determined to be eligible for work-study and have obtained employment with a work-study eligible employer, you will need to complete the Work-Study Form at which time we will process an award letter for you.

You can work for no more than 20 hours per week during the academic year and for no more than 40 hours per week during the summer. Wages range from $11 to $13 per hour. The pay rates are as follows: $11 for first-year law students, $12 for second-year law students and $13 for third-year law students.

Students working in the state of Pennsylvania may contact the Career Strategy and Advancement Office or come to the Office of Financial Aid for information on eligible work-study employers. For those students wishing to work in a state other than Pennsylvania, please contact the Office of Financial Aid to determine if the employer you are considering meets the requirements as a public or private nonprofit organization.

It is important to remember that any work-study funds awarded/earned will be deducted from the amount of aid you will receive for the upcoming academic year.
